Preparing For the Worst with Wireless Failover

The most nightmarish situation a business could find itself in is the internet failing. Since so much work is internet dependent, there’s no telling how much lost revenues, reduced employee productivity, and customer dissatisfaction will occur before the internet is back. If the cellular network going down is analogous to a leak, then wireless failover is the plumber, save this plumber performs his work instantaneously.

The idea behind wireless failover is that when your primary Internet or your landline goes down, cellular data is automatically converted to Ethernet and failovers to 4G LTE. This is done seamlessly and ensures that your company doesn’t shut down because of one hiccup in a router or server.

It seems like the easiest IT decision of your life to deploy a wireless failover solution but its never that simple. Like any piece of technology and any IT solution, there are many factors to consider which businesses don’t have the time to investigate on their own at the expense of their core objectives. I’ll name a few here:

  • Which servers do you want to preserve if a failover is needed? Wi-Fi can get expensive so you don’t want to continue the business day using only 4G LTE.

  • Which LTE device will you use to block unneeded web surfing, which sites will you block in general, and what other measures will you implement to limit internet abuse.

  • What provider are you going to pick and then what solutions are you going to use? This means considering things like the quality of your landline connection, if its fiber or cable, how often the network goes down, and pricing.

There are many other variables to consider as well but Conectrix is open and ready to help with that. We have partnerships with MACH Networks, Corporate IT Solutions, and Spectrotel, all of which provide wireless failover options. We also have relations with many other carriers that resell cradle points technology and other devices that fulfill the role of a wireless failover solution.
